In honor of Pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope, the Knights of Columbus is made a $600,000 donation to help save a historic shrine that honors North American Jesuit martyrs and the country’s first Native-American saint.

There are special places around the globe where the spiritual history of the world unfolded. These places are holy ground. We think of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, built atop the burial place of our first pope, of Tepeyac Hill where Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared and changed the course of evangelization for an entire hemisphere, and today we think of Auriesville, where the blood of martyrs brought forth within a single generation a lily — St. Kateri Tekakwitha — from the people who spilled that blood.

The call for Knights of Columbus to practice a charity that evangelizes was the message that Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori brought to state deputies and state deputy-elects through their addresses to the 2015 Organizational Meeting of State Deputies

The Knights of Columbus has grown to new heights in its charitable giving and volunteer hours during 2014, once again answering Pope Francis’ call to reach out to those in need, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson told the state deputies and state deputy-elects in his address at the 2015 Organizational Meeting of State Deputies in New Haven.

State leaders from across three continents gathered in New Haven, Conn., on Wednesday for the annual Organizational Meeting of Knights of Columbus State Deputies, being held June 3-7.

The World Meeting of Families and Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia (September 22-27, 2015) is expected to attract well in excess of a million people to the City of Brotherly Love. Archbishop Chaput and the Philadelphia archdiocese need volunteers to welcome and assist the many visitors and support the scheduled events.

Last month, I had the privilege of participating in an international conference at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.

For the third consecutive year, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson joined nearly 200 military veterans, active service personnel and volunteers sponsored through the Archdiocese for the Military Services and Knights of Columbus during the 57th International Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes, France, May 15-18.
